Scarborough Transit Issues Revealed this week

4/2/2018

I attended the provincial budget breakfast with Scarborough MPPs and was categorically told that the City does NOT have Sheppard as a transit priority and the Eglinton East LRT planning takes priority versus our shovel ready project and that the Province can only take direction on TTC planning from the City and they will support whatever the City decides.
North Scarborough residents must make the upcoming Provincial and Municipal elections about Sheppard and ensuring Rapid Transit on Sheppard is a top 3 transit project by all candidates. However it has always been the case that the province funded the whole Sheppard LRT and the TTC was just to operate it, see the latest confirmation of this in the 2016 City Developing Toronto's Transit Network Plan to 2031 document here on page 10.
I also read today that Doug Ford wants to build a subway on Sheppard, which we know would likely never be funded, therefore delaying rapid transit to the area, but I'm sure he's promised it to Raymond Cho. Rob Ford had campaigned to Scarborough councilors saying that he was going to fundraise for a Sheppard Subway, which is why he put the halt on the LRT, but after his time in office he obviously got nowhere. He sat on a MOU he signed with the province and council only found out about it a year after it was signed.
In an article I read (http://www.theethnicaisle.com/transit-issue/2017/3/6/david-miller) former Mayor David Miller tried to say it was Dalton McGuinty that halted the project. I'm starting to think we need to request a Freedom of Information request to find out the truth. He also says "It’s also true that the RT has issues in our climate — it works very well in Vancouver, but it can’t handle snow." So is this really the solution for Toronto?
There is a new MetroLinks updated projects page (www.metrolinx.com/en/projectsandprograms/projects_by_region.aspx )  and if you click on that link you will see Sheppard LRT is not listed anywhere, on any stage of development. Forget about being on the back burner, we're no longer on the STOVE!
The only page that shows the project is here
( http://www.metrolinx.com/en/projectsandprograms/transitexpansionprojects/toronto_lrt.aspx ) but no longer goes to the project detail page. We've been thrown under the bus folks.
