Ontario Active School Travel and 8 80 Cities present a webinar on School Streets, a successful program from the U.K. that has been proven to improve safety, reduce air pollution, and encourage more active transportation. School Streets are appearing in cities across the UK and Europe, where communities take part in creating car-free zones in front of schools at peak drop-off and pick-up times. Hackney Borough Council is a municipality that has pioneered the installation of School Street zones in the City of London, U.K. with 4 permanent zones established to date, and 3 more pilots underway in 2019. Building on the lessons learnt in Hackney, 8 80 Cities teamed up with Keele Street Public School, Toronto District School Board and EcoKids to host the first School Streets pilot project in Canada this October. Learn about how to plan and implement a School Street This webinar will discuss the motivations behind the School Streets movement, and identify what makes a good candidate for a successful School Street pilot. Our presenters will share their experiences of planning and implementing School Streets and highlight resources available to support these initiatives:
