as I chose to give up driving for the last two months to ensure I had an accurate rider experience on the TTC in Scarborough. I have to say, not much as changed since I was a teen, there is much to be desired. I will continue to work to have the decades old Sheppard Ave East Rapid transit project reinstated on the City's priority list, as it has been replaced with the NEW concept Eglinton East LRT plan, which I do not support at this time. I feel the current bus lines are sufficient and will offer a similar travel time to the recommendation routes.
The Sheppard Avenue East project (which the current provincial gov`t wants to fund) would also aid those trying to reach the Zoo within reasonable travel time, in the hopes that it will increase the amount of visitors attending this great City attraction.
Within our ward I would like to see a new Express line created. Running from the top of Steeles (servicing residents of Morningside Heights), down Morningside, along Sheppard East (serving Dean Park and Rouge residents) down to Port Union GO train and ending near Mowat. The second concept would be a community bus (which is offered in East York) generally for the elderly during daytime hours along areas of our very winding streets, which residents indicate they would find helpful. I am also a proponent of a minimum three stop Subway coming from Kennedy, with stops at Lawrence, STC and Sheppard. I believe a one-stop subway, with no SRT line, will impede our ability to have reasonable travel times within Scarborough, MetroLinx currently has the technology to get this done, as does the technical advisory company HATCH that is advising on engineering of the project. I would also like to see our TTC bus stop sheds equipped with solar panel LED lighting. These are rampant in other wards across Toronto, and would increase our safety while waiting for buses.
