  • Provincial Education Funding Guide Submission: The TDSB has submitted its response to the Ministry of Education's request for input on the provincial Education Funding Engagement Guide 2019-2020. The full response is now available online
  • Provincial Education Consultation Submission: The TDSB has submitted feedback to the Ministry of Education's Consultation: Education in Ontario. The consultation, which closed on December 15, was open to students, parents, staff and organizations.
  • Director's Annual Report: The 2018 Director's Annual Report is now available online. This report is a summary of the work that is happening across the system in support of achievement, equity and well-being.
  • Policy Consultations: The TDSB is currently looking for public input on two policies – Student Dress Code (P042) and Restrictions on Alcohol, Drug and Tobacco Use (P0XX). To learn more, including how you can participate, please visit the TDSB webpage for Policy Consultations.
  • Good News Stories: trending@tdsb is a new online publication that features stories by former education reporter Louise Brown that will take you inside schools across the Toronto District School Board. Her stories focus on the exciting changes that are underway in and out of our classrooms, including new ways of learning and teaching, reaching deeper into communities and putting equity into action.
  • TDSB Employment Opportunity Fair: Explore the exciting career possibilities the TDSB has to offer at our first ever Employment Opportunity Fair on Saturday, January 26, 2019. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Montecassino Hotel and Event Venue in North York.
  • Multi-Year Strategic Plan Action Plans: This plan – and its action plans – lays the ground work for how we will transform student learning, create a culture of well-being, provide access to learning opportunities, allocate resources strategically and build strong partnerships. Funding, Contests and Grant Opportunities
  1. The Ontario Active School Travel Fund is an initiative of Ontario Active School Travel, a three-year program that is piloting a provincial framework for increasing active transportation for the journey to school. The ultimate goal of the program, and its partners, is to achieve population-level change to reverse the decline in active school travel in Ontario, and to establish a culture of walking and wheeling to school. The program is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Education and delivered by Green Communities Canada. The deadline for applications for the Ontario Active School Travel Fund is 5pm EST on 21 December 2018. The Fund offers grants of up to $60,000 per community for partnership-based projects that expand active school travel and build a foundation for lasting impact. Read the Program Guide, Q&A's, and request the Ontario Active School Travel Fund application package here.
  2. The Solar Oven Challenge is an annual contest with delectable results. Students from classes across Canada (Grades 4-12) are invited to use the construction plans at Re-Energy.ca to build working models of a solar oven. The classes then compete for a chance to win a grand prize of $500 or one of two runner prizes of $250 each. Deadline: Spring each year.
  3. Staples Superpower Your School Contest. If your school runs an environmental project or program that is saving the planet, then this contest is for you. In the Staples Superpower Your School contest, schools are invited to submit their eco initiatives for a chance to win up to $20,000 worth of technology for their school. Deadline: January 31, 2019.
  4. The Classroom Energy Diet Challenge Presented by Shell and Canadian Geographic, the Classroom Energy Diet Challenge (CEDC) is a competition that aids energy awareness by encouraging Canadian classrooms (K-12) to compete in energy-themed activities. They will be competing for more than 90 prizes worth a total of $40,000. Deadline:Classrooms should be registered by January 27, 2019.
  5. Government of Canada: Climate Action Fund Climate change is a complex environmental challenge our youth will have to face in their time. Therefore, the Climate Action Fund (CAF) provides variable amounts of funding to support Canadian students and youth (ages 15 – 30 years) in climate change education.

  1. Cannabis is Now Legal: As of today, Oct. 17, cannabis is now legal in Canada. For more information, including helpful resources for parents and students, please visit the Toronto District School Board website.

  2. Parent Conference: Join us for the free parent conference on Saturday, Nov. 17. Attend workshops, network with agencies and other parents and hear from the keynote speaker. Bussing, childminding and interpretation services will be available. Register now!

  3. Early French Immersion Parent/Guardian Information Evenings - The Early French Immersion (SK entry) Parent/Guardian Information Evenings will be held at specific area secondary schools across the system in October and November. More information is available online, including the date, time and location for each session.

  4. Extended Day Programs: There are still spaces available in Extended Day Programs at nine TDSB schools. For registration information and a list of available locations, please visit the website.

  5. Open Houses and Information Nights: Learn everything you need to know about our schools, programs and courses at TDSB Open Houses and Information Nights. These events are held between October and January.

  6. Provincial Consultation on Education Reform: Parents, students, educators and community members are invited to provide feedback on several areas of the province's education system, including updating the Health and Physical Education curriculum and improving student performance in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Closing date is Dec. 15, 2018. To learn more and how you can participate, visit fortheparents.ca.

  7. School Board Election: The next municipal election will be held on Monday, Oct. 22, 2018. This includes election for the office of school board trustee. Learn more about the election and the role of a school board trustee, and view the list of trustee candidates.

  8. TDSB Update: Sign up for TDSB Update and stay informed about recent Board decisions and district-wide news.

Hello Ward 21 schools / community councils.

As your Parent Involvement Advisory Committee member, I am happy to announce that planning for the Parent Conference is well under way and we will  be bringing an amazing line up of speakers and workshops to the conference this year. Please stay tuned for emails and posters to promote this annual event to parents at your schools.
